Garden Rooms – A Perfect Choice For Your Garden

Garden Rooms – A Perfect Choice For Your Garden

It is a beautiful season just beginning here on this side of the planet. The birds are chirping, the sun is shining, and it is prime time for hanging around in the yard, whether it is grilling for friends, or relaxing with a book and a glass of iced tea.

But if you want to go a little further it may be time to consider really upping your game. A customized garden room may be just what you have been looking for to turn your yard from faded to fabulous.

What Is a Garden Room?

A garden room is an individual, closed space building placed within your yard. It is different than a gazebo, which is more of a covered deck or stage, but otherwise it remains open to the elements. A garden room normally has four walls, doors, and windows, like a mini house.

Unlike a shed it is more stylized, attractive, and comfortable. A garden room isn’t a place to put your tools. It is somewhere to sit back, unwind, and maybe entertain. Or it could have a number of other purposes, which we will cover at the bottom of this article.

A garden room is the multipurpose, fully adaptable space of your dreams, in other words.

Can I Have a Garden Room In My Home Instead?

This question comes up a lot, and the answer is no. A garden room is one that exists out in the garden, not in your house. However, you can create a garden-like space within your own that brings all of the comforts of a garden into your home. This is usually referred to as a greenhouse room, and it can be a great way to get the beauty of a garden when you have limited outdoor space.

Some ways to create such a room is by using furniture for patios, taking advantage of natural light, and filling the room with plants.

Is It Expensive To Make a Garden Room?

One of the best parts about having a garden room is that it can be adapted to any style or budget. For some it will be a breeze to construct a garden room with running water, electricity, and several separated sections. For others it will be a matter of customizing an old storage shed to be more homey and attractive.

Because of this, the cost of garden rooms can vary as much as the cost of houses. Be prepared for anywhere for $800 on the low end to $40,000 on the high. It will depend on what you want to get out of it.

Examples Of Gorgeously Designed Garden Rooms To Inspire You

One of the best ways to see the potential for these garden rooms is to look at what others have managed to create. Here are some gorgeous examples that are sure to inspire you to begin designing your own.

  • Garden Office – One of the major reasons people choose to create a garden room is in order to create an office space that doesn’t take up too much of the space needed for their family. It is also a pleasant place to work, out in the fresh air with the doors flung wide. This is an example of a great outdoor office design complete with a place to take a relaxing break.
  • Exercise Room and Patio – Don’t like going to the gym? Want to be able to take a run when it is cold outside, or raining? Then why not create an exercise room like these folks did? They even installed a deck so after a workout they can go and sit in the shade, have a drink, and feel the satisfaction of their achievement. This is an excellent example of using the space for a practical purpose that might not have been possible without the structure.
  • Music Studio – Does your teenager have a band? Are you tired of listening to the banging of drums and screech of the guitar every day? You still want to be supportive of their talents and dreams, so why not make them their own studio? They can get the practice they need, and you can get some peace and quiet.
  • Guest House – Why force the people staying with you to sleep on a lumpy sofa? You can create a gorgeous guest house like these people did, and give your visitors a place to sleep in comfort. This is one of the more expensive options, but it is great if you have both the space and the budget for it. It doesn’t have to be a fully functional house with running water, either. They can use the main house for plumbing needs, or to get food. You just provide a bed and a quiet place for them to have some privacy.
  • Bike Rack – This is a really interesting example of what you can do on a small scale that is still highly functional. Using recycled lumber, this little garden room features a place to relax, an indoor section, and a side storage to place two or more bikes, including on a wall hook. It is great for placing any items you worry would be stolen, such as bikes, the doors on this design close and lock to keep them safe.
  • College Crash Pad – Why make your kid live in a cramped dorm when you can give them a place of their own? Or why not provide an option for a struggling student that is looking for a place to rent? There is no doubt a late-teen’s to 20-something renter is staying in this particular garden room.
  • Home Gym – You saw the exercise room, but this is a whole home gym. The way the front opens gives it plenty of ventilation to keep things cool while you sweat it out.
  • House Extension – Finally, we have an option for those who don’t have a lot of space and so don’t want an independent structure. They built it right out of the house!
